3 Tips for Vocals

We love giving tips to help you guys out. So vocalists this one is for you guys. Whether you play and sing, or are just a singer, here are some things that are going to help you sing better. Because we all wanna sound good right?

1) Practice proper vocal hygiene.

Sounds lame. But it’s important. Your vocal chords are muscles, and if you don’t take care of them properly, they won’t take care of you. Especially if you just about to sing. There are no hard and fast rules, use your judgement. But drink tepid water instead of cold water. Drink tea with lemon and honey to soothe your throat and keep it clear. Do warm ups! You wouldn’t run a marathon without stretching, so don’t do a show with warming up your vocals.

2) Do not strain your voice.

If at any point your voice starts feeling uncomfortable, or starts to hurt after you sing, you are doing something wrong. It’s not a “no pain,no gain” situation. It’s a “If you keep doing that, I’m gonna stop.” situation. Learning your range is important. Vocal training is SUPER important. Every big artist ends up going to vocal training. You can’t just go on tour for three months and expect everything to be amazing. Your voice gets tired. And learning to take care and sing properly will make massive improvements.

3) Learn proper microphone technique.

Something people look past, because it doesn’t have much to do with singing, is microphone technique. This is learning how to use a microphone properly. This ranges from how to sing into the microphone, from when to pull away so that you aren’t overloading signal. Not only will this make you a better vocalist, it will always make you sound better because it involves controlling your dynamics.

So there it is, 3 things you vocalist’s should keep your eye on. Don’t be the vocalist that ends up losing their voice in the middle of the tour. Because trust me, it sucks.
